YOUTHS CONNECT VIRTUALLY FOR 11TH ANNUAL SHOKO FESTIVAL
Shoko Festival, the country’s biggest urban culture event was held concurrently with the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair last week and creative youths from around the country networked at the virtual annual event which was aired live on YouTube and the festival’s Facebook page.
The celebration which has grown to include a comprehensive programme of urban culture-related events, from hip hop and house to comedy and spoken word featured performances from Tocky Vibez, Tanto Wavie, Darula and Van Choga among others.
Running under the theme “Shoko Universe” this year’s event also featured a collaboration with the Netherlands Embassy to present a spoken word programme for its 2021 edition. Dutch spoken word artist, Smita James and top Zimbabwean poet Shaldo, the two artists collaborated on combined themes that were performed virtually.
The festival hostes a number of workshops, conferences and artist panels as well as give young artists working in different urban genres an opportunity to perform and increase their fan base.
