Zimbabwe relying on youth empowerment for economic development
By Tadiwa Jery
Although the majority of the economically active age group in Zimbabwe is struggling with
unemployment, there is a significant number of people between the age of 18 and 45 who are
bringing forth necessary economic development which the country needs.
The young people who are driven and capable enough to run a day to day business have received
much attention from the government. Youth development campaigns have been held for young
business owners in different economic sectors to help them expand their operations.
Youth empowerment has now become a priority for the government. In a report made by Theophilus
Chuma, there has been revelations that at least six thousand young people have so far been
supported through the Youth EmpowerBank which the government launched.
The Acting CEO of Youth EmpowerBank Shadreck Mhembere stated that, the rollover of the
projects continues as the financial institution seeks to ensure a broad-based macro-economic
development within the key segments of the economy.
