Solar equipment retailing takes Zimbabwe by storm

By Tadiwa Jery

Over the past two decades, the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) has struggled to
deliver reliable power supply throughout the country. With periods were the entire nation faced
excessive load shedding, most people have decided to have a back up  plan in case the electricity
company fails to deliver yet again.

According to the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), there were 65 registered solar
equipment and servicing companies in 2019. In July 2021, 66 new companies were registered under
ZERA, making the total number of solar companies 131 throughout Zimbabwe.

As solar energy is known to be more convenient and less costly to use, it has surpassed the demand
for diesel and petrol generators to become the main second option source of electricity in
Zimbabwe.

Solar heights, a solar equipment retailing company has on offer a 160W solar Panel, a 500W solar
inverter and a mono crystalline 80AH solar battery with a 1 year warranty for $310. The price range
depends on the quality of the equipment and the solar gear one wants to install.

The Solar equipment and service companies could not have come at a better time as this year,
Zimbabwe was yet again hit by another power shortage crisis after the 2019 drought.

With an improved Zimbabwean market approach which can allow most people to afford buying a full
solar gear, these companies stand to have profitable businesses.
