AIRLINES RESUME DIRECT FLIGHTS TO ZIMBABWE

The country’s aviation sector is set for a growth spurt in 2022 as airlines from around the world are establishing direct flights to Harare.
Most airlines are reeling from the effects of COVID-19 which manifested itself through travel bans and lockdowns, as they scramble to reposition themselves, Zimbabwe is in line for expansion and development of its aviation industry.
Speaking to journalists, Zimbabwe Airports Company of Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Tawanda Gusha said Zimbabwe is becoming a destination of choice and many different airlines have begun flying direct.
He said Lufthansa confirmed its plan to launch a direct flight to Harare this year, while Mack air has already begun to fly direct to Harare.
Gusha said for the first time in history, Zimbabwe has a direct flight to Maputo adding that many airlines are set to establish a flight path direct to and from Harare.
The developments in the aviation sector come as the airport expansion project is in full swing, in accordance to the implementation of the National Development Strategy 1, envisaged by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
