Mines and Mining development Minister Honorable Winston Chitando says the output of gold in the country is set to increase this year.
Minister Chitando said the increased capacity of mining entities from big corporates to small scale miners will be instrumental in the growth of production of the yellow metal.
He said the mining industry as a whole is poised for a productive year as it prioritises value addition and increased capacity utilisation.
Minister Chitando also said some major initiatives will soon be announced towards value addition of diamonds while the consolidated carbon steel project is also part of government’s initiative to maximise on value addition before export.
The minister said although the official figures on the 2021 mining performance are yet to be officially released close to USD4, 5 billion was brought in revenue streams, noting that 2022 should witness further growth.
