GOVERNMENT TO RECOVER STOLEN CITY COUNCIL PROPERTIES

Government together with the Harare City Council have joined forces to recover several assets which were allegedly being personalised by some Councillors.
Addressing Journalists, Harare Mayor Councilor Stewart Mutizwa said the Harare City Council is the biggest real estate owner in Harare and yet many of its properties have been hijacked for personal profit by some individuals.
Councilor Mutizwa said some blocks of flats, beer halls, community halls were now being manned by individuals who were directly collecting proceeds fo their personal use adding that he is glad that the government is now involved in the quest to recover these properties.
Commenting on the issue, Harare Metropolitan Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mr Tafadzwa Muguti said they have come up with a strategy to recover several council properties and they will engage law enforcement to ensure that criminals are brought to book.
The Harare City Council has received criticism from members of the public for poor service delivery and misplaced priorities.
