By Staff Reporter
The Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Winston Chitando says the growing interest in mining sector projects has resulted in Zimbabwe’s yearly mining title applications going up to over 17 000 from 2 500.
Honourable Chitando was addressing journalists after his recent presentation titled “sustainable and responsible mining in Zimbabwe in pursuit of vision 2030”, at the Zimbabwe National Defence University.
Minister Chitando also said he is confident that the mining sector would reach its target of a USD12 billion output next year.
He said the coming on stream of new mines and the increase in the uptake of projects has increased demand for mining titles.
The sector in 2019 generated US $3,2 billion and US $5 billion in 2021 while also contributing to 60% of export receipts.
