Zimbabwe has and still is making its intentions to rejoin the Commonwealth clear, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade working to develop bilateral ties with Britain, in a bid to thaw the hostile relationship between the two countries which worsened over the past 20 years.
With Rwandese President Paul Kagame and Commonwealth Secretary-General, the right-Honourable Patricia Scotland confirming the 20th of June this year as the new date for the meeting of Commonwealth member states in Kigali, Rwanda, a discussion on Zimbabwe’s re-admission could take center stage.
President Kagame announced that his country was pleased to welcome all delegates and participants to Kigali for a safe and productive Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Zimbabwe quit the Commonwealth in 2003 at the height of its misunderstanding with Britain on the land reform program, but the incumbent Government is currently ceased with processes that will lead to its re-admission , in line with its re-engagement agenda.
