Zimbabwe together with the SADC secretariat are hosting a programme with the thrust of combating cyber-crime and corruption.
The purpose of the programme is to assist Zimbabwe, which is a signatory to the SADC protocol against corruption, to implement various strategies against the vice.
“As SADC we saw it proper to help Zimbabwe in capacity building initiatives, especially on cyber-crimes and you are the first country to benefit,” said Kealeboga Moruti, senior officer, public security SADC Secretariat.
This development comes after four officials from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development were arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission ZACC for criminal abuse of office.
ZACC also arrested 12 revenue clerks from the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) stationed at Shurugwi tollgate.
“The arrest shows that we are dealing with both high profile and low profile cases. If ever you are corrupt we will arrest you regardless of status,” said ZACC Commissioner, Kuziva Murapa.
Zimbabwe is losing billions of United States dollars annually due to corruption and the interface with SADC is expected to boost government efforts to deal with the scourge.
