Young creatives and content creators in Zimbabwe are making their mark both locally and around the world.
One such person is Farai Ian Muzofa, a graduate of the Zimbabwe Institute of Vigital Arts in Harare.
Farai who recently relocated to the United States worked on the visual effects of the record breaking Spider-Man No Way Home movie which was released in December 2021.
The movie has grossed more than 1 billion dollars and has become the third biggest movie in the history of cinema.
Farai has also worked on blockbusters such as Reminisance and Godzilla vs Kong.
With the bar set so high, local creatives have positioned themselves to establish the film industry in Zimbabwe so as to create more opportunities.
Recently, a series Wadiwa Wepamoyo was a big hit on YouTube with almost 1 million people viewing the episodes, creating a source of income for those in the sector.
Currently, an anti poaching film “Gonarezhou” which stars musician Tamy Moyo and news-anchor Rumbie Takawira is on the cards.
Last year, a remake of the world famous movie, Neria was made to bring out a modern and fresh perspective to the story.
Unlike previous years, where creatives had to push to be recognized by one broadcasting station, the playing field is wider with new radio and television stations together with platforms like Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
The number of views on those platforms translate to monetary value, which in turn contributes to the birth and growth of an industry.
With creatives like Farai Muzofa, Danai Gurira, Tongai Arnold Chirisa and locally based creatives like David Zinyama and Probeatz, it is only a matter of time before Zimbabwe’s creative arts industry returns to its former glory.
