Imagine a world with Zimbabweans working together. Picture a Zimbabwe which has every ward, city and province working collectively to improve the lives of all Zimbabweans. Additionally, imagine each province contributing to the GDP and every city receiving the same services that millions travel to Harare for. This must not be fantasy anymore. For most progress loving councillors, MPs and citizens, it is now a reality. This drive of citizens working together will help with the nation reaching an upper middle-income society by 2030.
Devolution funds: Councils and Zimbabweans working together using the funds.
Furthermore, among the many success stories of communities is the devolution programme. Here, councils play an active role in the development of their communities. One of the wins from this programme is seen in Chiredzi. The town council of the city has been proactive towards developing their community to improve the lives. The town council used part of their allocated funds to acquire refuse collection equipment to improve the town’s sanitation services and also to complete a classroom block at Tshovani ECD Learning Centre. Involving the citizens in such acts can be a step in the Zimbabweans working together journey.
Moreover, the programme has funds where which go towards road construction, refuse collection and acquiring fire-fighting equipment. Councils also use the money to complete infrastructure especially in the health, education, water, sanitation and roads sectors. Also, these funds go to construction of infrastructure in these same sectors. These steps taken by the Government and councils will help with Zimbabweans working together as a collective as cooperation from everyone is important. It is the duty of the councils to work on issues affecting the communities hence, the electorate’s voices need to be heard.
Councils and citizens’ responsibilities.
Consequently, holding councillors accountable for developing communities is the citizens’ responsibility. Also, these councillors are closer to the community and should campaign with a plan on how to deliver what the public needs. Therefore, failure to come up with solutions to make lives easier for the people who voted for them is inexcusable. They should perform the tasks at hand and bring change in the communities they serve. Input from councils and citizens shows that Zimbabweans working together will bring the change needed in each society.
Moreso, in most developed countries, people take care of their communities. They even pressure their mayors and councillors to make constant improvements to their social amenities, including road rehabilitation. However, we blame the Government on a daily basis yet most of us occasionally exhibit traits that contradict with the vision we have of our country. Patriotism is not political but a love for one’s country. Bringing change in our own wards is the first fight we need before the battle of shaping our nation. Finally, Zimbabweans working together will create a prosperous nation for generations to come.
